Special Pronunciation Rule (The ㅢ 's)

1. ㅢ is always prouounced as [ㅢ] when it is the first syllable of word.

예)의자[의자]

의사 [의사]

2. But when written as the second syllable, it is pronounced as [ㅢ] or [ㅣ].

예)주의[주의] or [주이]

강의 [강의] or [강이]

3. However, When a consonant is in front of ㅢ, the pronunciation of ㅢ becomes [ㅣ]

예)희망[히망]

무늬[무니]

4. When the possessive maker 의 is used, it is pronounced as [ㅢ] or [ㅔ]..

In this case, most Koreans pronounce it [ㅔ].

예) 나의[ 나에] or [나의]

사람의 [사람에] or [사람의]
